I missed the earlier tournament but I’m not so sure I’d have Napoles beating Mayweather. Mantiquilla was great but he did have a few weaknesses, which leads me to…………….

Leonard vs Napoles: For all his greatness, Napoles would be outmatch in nearly every category. Sure, he fought middleweights but he didn’t fair very well against them. Napoles was slick but he wasn’t a very big fighter. Leonard would use his natural size, strength, speed and equal power to keep the fight even.

Some tend to make the mistake of comparing Napoles to Wilfred Benitez. It’s very possible that Napoles might have beaten Benitez but he certainly did not have Wilfred’s defensive abilities. After boxing a few close rounds, Leonard would learn that he has an edge in strength. He would plant his feet and turn the boxing match into a fight. Again, Napoles is slick but he’s no Benitez. He would have no choice but to fight with Leonard. Here lies his problem.

Where he was able to keep Leonard off balance for brief spells in the early going, Napoles will find that he cannot match Leonard’s speed on the inside. In round eight, Napoles suffers a cut above his left eye. Leonard decides to box for a few rounds, working on the cut.

Napoles makes a desperate attempt to end it by coming back inside where he runs into a solid left hook that puts him on the mat. Mantiquilla is up but Sugar is all over him. They trade at ring center until Leonard forces Napoles to a corner. Leonard opens up with a barrage of punches. Napoles fires back until another solid left catches him on the chin. Leonard pounds home five more punches until the referee steps in to stop it.

Leonard by TKO in 13.
