Your Questions About Poker

Lizzie asks…

How many chips should be dealt out in poker?

I’m going to be setting up some Texas Hold ‚em poker games with my family (4-6 people depending on how many want to play) and I’m curious as to how many chips each person should start with, and what value should each color have. I have a decent set of clay chips, 6 different colors. I don’t need to use each color if it’s not necessary.

Also, what should the blinds start out as, and how often should they be raised?

admin answers:

Do 5000 in chips 12 of one color (25$) 12 of another (100$) 5 of another (500$) 1 of another (1000$)
then use this website as a poker timer that shows you blind levels. We do this every time we play and it will be a nice timed game

Can anyone recommend the best deals in Vegas right now for poker players?

I’m looking for a room at an upscale hotel on the strip (Bellagio, Venetian, Encore, Caesar’s, etc.) in October and I’m a poker player. I plan on playing a lot of poker and I know there are deals if you commit to a certain number of hours per day of play.

Can anyone recommend the best deal for one of the hotels mentioned above and include the specifics (price per night and hours of play)?

Thanks!

admin answers:

I have only played at Venetian before to what I know about in June, you have to play at least 2/5 NL and above for 6-8 hours up per day to get half the price of the room. The room rate is around $350, so you pay about 175ish, I’m not sure if you play higher stake like 5/10 or 10/20 would change anything. Also Bellagio has the worse comps, they barely give anything for free. Caesar might have some deal give them a call. Encore is brand new hotel, I think their room rate should be same as Venetian or lil bit less. If you play high stake your winners should cover the room rate.
Also on/off the stripes not on your list. You can play at MGM for 6-8 hours and up at a $40 per night. Bally has a $100 bonus for Aces been cracked Mon to Thur 9am -12pm, $100 bounes for any Quads, Rio also has freeroll tournament everyday at 6pm with 3 hours of live play to qualify. There are much more of poker deals, so good luck, hope you win.

Is online poker legal in California and if it is what is the tax on the profit?

This is a legal question on poker.

admin answers:

Running an online gaming operation as a US Citizen is illegal. Your winnings from gambling maybe subject to taxes depending on the state. I don’t know if California taxes winnings regardless if you got them in Nevada, or offshore.

admin answers:

Is it cash or tournament?

If cash you don’t raise blinds at all. Also, chips should be dependent on shallow vs deep stacks etc etc.

As for value it depends on what blind system you are using if you are playing tourneys, and what limit the cash game is.

How good is „Bullfrog Poker“ on Miniclip.com in terms of practicing and preparing for a live table?

I wanna continue playing poker and start a live table at a nearby casino. Ive been playing bullfrog poker on miniclip but want to know what other people think about it

admin answers:

LOL. Its not a good representation at all.

1) Real Hold ‚Em Poker is tournament style with everyone starting out with an equal number of chips. Bullfrog you’ve almost always got replacement chips once your all in bet fails, thus somebody goes all in on nearly every hand.

2) In a real tournament the blinds get progressively larger as the game progresses, making it more and more expensive to sit on the sidelines and wait for a good hand.

3) The strategy in Hold ‚Em is mostly in the betting. Whether to try and draw your opponent in with a small bet, feel him out with a medium bet or bluff with a large bet. While there is an element of that in Bullfrog, its watered down since most put their chips on the table with little fear of losing them.

4) Good Hold ‚Em players are able to read their opponents body language and tendencies. Again, very little of that in Bullfrog.

So are real poker and Bullfrog poker the same game? Yes, the same way that Putt-Putt mini golf is the same as the Masters Tournament.
