Helen asks…

What’s the difference between 5 card stud and 7 card stud in poker?

I am new in playing poker. can you help me with this?

admin answers:

Five card stud poker is very similar to Seven card stud poker, but obviously you only get 5 cards. It is probably one of the oldest forms of poker, as featured in most poker related films. There are no community cards, each player will end up with one card face down and four cards face up at the end of the game.

You can see most of your opponents cards, so you should be able to easily work out their strongest hand. If you cannot beat the exposed cards, fold early.

If you need completer cards for a flush or a straight, make sure other players are not showing them. High cards and pairs will win a lot of the hands.

However, Seven Card Stud Poker is probably the most popular of the stud poker games. It can result in high pots, and affords you the opportunity to evaluate the other poker player’s possible hands. There are no community cards, and each player has four of his seven cards exposed to the other players. There are five rounds of betting in Seven Card Stud Poker, as opposed to the four rounds in Texas Holdem and Omaha Poker. Fifth street is a decision time, as the betting limit increases, this is the time to fold a poor hand, especially against aggressive betting. If you stay in be sure you can play your hand out to the end.

If an opponents exposed cards beat your whole hand, it is best to fold.

If you are trying to make a straight, look to see if other players are showing the cards you need, and reconsider your bet.

Charles asks…

do you have to report online poker earnings to the IRS?

Do you have to report your earnings from playing poker online to the IRS on your taxes?

If so, is there a designated amount that doesn’t need to be reported – and everything above that does?

If it matters by state – I am curious about California.

Also, the way the monies are received from the poker site are via check.
Please note, I am only asking about ONLINE poker wins. The payments have been received via a check from a third party.

admin answers:

The IRS says you have to. Just because somebody hasn’t gotten caught doesn’t mean it’s not required.

In reality, if you’re talking a small amount, they won’t even bother trying to tack you down. If it’s in the tens of thousands, that’s a different story.

admin answers:

Poker is tough!!, and can be very unfair sometimes. You might want to step away for a while, just chile, when you play poker you must play your A game at all time. When go back on track go down a few stacks, there is nothing wrong with that. Poker can be very stressfull, trust me I know! (play for a living).
A good poker player know how to deal with the ups and downs. You need to constantly analyze your game, yourself.

If you need any specific advice you can contact me on my site.

Take care

How can I get/make loads of dirt cheap poker chips?

I want to play penny poker with some friends. I want about 600 chips, so we can play with 6 people for tiny amounts. I really don’t care about the quality or anything, I just need loads of pieces of plastic. I’d rather not have to go down the bank and ask for hundreds of pennies to use directly as chips. What should I do?

admin answers:

Custom chips are fantastic but not cheap however in the uk you can go to Argos or amazon for these and in the us focus on amazon.
