There are many types of poker. The most popular is texas holdem. Texas holdem has two games: limit and no limit. In limit there are specific betting structures and in no limit you can bet w/e you want. No limit is my game and is the more popular and fun one imo.It is a very easy game to learn, but is very hard to master. In texas holdem there are 4 „rounds“ of BETTING. The first one is called „preflop“. The second one is called the flop. The third one is called the turn and lastly the 4th round is called the river.

Preflop: There are something called „blinds“ . They are basically forced bets. Why are they there?? To get the action going (people have something to get now). Without em, the game would be terribly boring and everyone would wait for the best possible hands.

Anyways, you are dealt to cards. There are two blinds- the small blind and the big blind. If you arent on the sb or bb, you have the option to just „call“, raise, or fold. Lets say the blinds are 1/2 (sb-1, bb-2). You are right next to the blinds. You would have to at least call (putting the amount of money bet or raised which in this case would be 2) to continue to the next round. You also have the option to „raise“ (you put more in the pot, but now everyone else has to put more too to continue to the next round) to any amount. Or you could fold and not continue with the hand. You should probaly play 10% of your hands as a beginner so you are going to be folding most of the time.

Flop- You get to see a flop if you didnt fold preflop. The flop is basically three cards THAT EVERYONE CAN USE TO MAKE THE BEST 5 CARD HAND and with the two cards you hold and the 3 cards on the flop you wanna make the best 5 card hand. The following gives you the hands you want to make. Most of the time (like 90% of the time) you will only flop a pair or worse. On the flop you have the option to check/bet/call/raise. Checking is putting no more money in the pot. If someone bets you cant check anymore because you would have to „call“ that bet. You could bet which is putting more money in the pot (everyone has to at least call this bet to continue to the turn). You could raise which is to to even more money when someone has just bet. You can „call“ someone when a person has bet or raised by putting in the amount they have bet or raised. Let me give you an example.
You have AA in 1/2 game. You raise it to 6 (normal raise) preflop. You get one caller. Flop comes out 27T. Pot is 12. Lets say you check. One of three things could happen. Your oppenent bets in which case you can raise, call, or fold.

However, lets say you decide to bet. 1/3 things could happen. Your oppenent could raise your bet, your oppenent folds, or your oppenent calls.

Turn- The third round of betting. This time only one card comes out (instead of the three on the flop). More betting/checking/raising/calling/folding.

River- One last card comes out. More betting/raising/checking/folding/calling.

Ken asks…

Some card game rules?

Could someone please give me the entire rules to:
* Poker (not Texas Hold ‚em)
* Hearts
* Old Maid

admin answers:

For Poker,
In casual play, the right to deal a hand typically rotates among the players and is marked by a token called a ‚dealer‘ button (or „buck“). In a casino, a house dealer handles the cards for each hand, but the button (typically a white plastic disk) is rotated clockwise among the players to indicate a nominal dealer to determine the order of betting.

One or more players are usually required to make forced bets, usually either an ante or a blind bet (sometimes both). The dealer shuffles the cards, the player one chair to his right cuts, and the dealer deals the appropriate number of cards to the players one at a time. Cards may be dealt either face-up or face-down, depending on the variant of poker being played. After the initial deal, the first of what may be several betting rounds begins. Between rounds, the players‘ hands develop in some way, often by being dealt additional cards or replacing cards previously dealt. At the end of each round, all bets are gathered into the central pot.

At any time during a betting round, if one player bets and no opponents choose to „call“ (match) the bet and instead „fold“, the hand ends immediately, the bettor is awarded the pot, no cards are required to be shown, and the next hand begins. This is what makes bluffing possible. Bluffing is a primary feature of poker, one that distinguishes it from other vying games and from other games that make use of poker hand rankings.

At the end of the last betting round, if more than one player remains, there is a showdown, in which the players reveal their previously hidden cards and evaluate their hands. The player with the best hand according to the poker variant being played wins the pot. A poker hand consists of five cards, but in some variants a player has more than five to choose from.

In Hearts,

There are loads of ways u can play the game.

In Old Maid,
The dealer deals all of the cards to the players. Some players may have more cards than others, this is acceptable. Players look at their cards and discard any pairs they have (i.e., 2 Kings, 2 Sevens, etc) face up. Players do not discard three of a kind. In some variants, the colors in a discarded pair must match: ♠ with ♣ and ♦ with ♥.

Beginning with the dealer, each player takes turns offering his hand facedown to the person on his left. That person selects a card and adds it to his or her hand. This player then sees if the selected card makes a pair with their original cards. If so, the pair is discarded face up as well. The player who just took a card then offers his or her hand to the person to their left and so on. A player is allowed to shuffle his hand before offering it to the player on his left. In some variants, all players discard after the dealer has drawn.

The object of the game is to continue to take cards, discarding pairs, until one is left with no cards. The player left with the odd queen (that has no matching queen) is stuck with the „Old Maid“ and loses.

Hope It Works Out! =)

William asks…

How to know which player is supposed to act first after the flop? (poker)?

Don’t laugh, I only started playing it a week ago. I like the game and I understand the basics, except knowing which player is supposed to act first after the flop/turn/river. I can’t find it on the internet either, since 99% of the information is for people who at least know the most basic stuff.

What’s the rule?

admin answers:

Depends on how youre playing. If youre playing with big/small blinds, its to the first person to the left of small blind. If you arent playing with blinds, its to the first person to the left of the dealer. Rule of thumb, always to the left.

Sandy asks…

Which poker hand wins?

Jack of Hearts, Queen of hearts, Queen of Diamonds, King of Spades, Ace of Spades
vs.
6 of Diamonds, Jack of Hearts, Jack of Diamonds, King of Spades, King of Hearts

My parents are playing a Lottery Scratch Ticket about poker and the rules are funky and some cards repeat themselves so that’s why they’re weird :P.

admin answers:

George asks…

How to play poker ??

How to play poker and what are the rules?

admin answers:

Poker comes in many forms, but in general, the idea is to make the best 5-card hand. The hand values are as follows:

Royal Flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten all of the same suit:
A♥K♥Q♥J♥T♥

Straight Flush: 5 cards in a row, all the same suit:
7♦8♦9♦10♦J♦

Four of a Kind: 4 Matching ranks:
3♣3♥3♠3♦K♥

Full house: 3 matching ranks and a pair:
4♥4♦4♣J♥J♦

Flush: 5 cards of the same suit:
A♠Q♠8♠4♠3♠

Straight: 5 cards in a row:
A♦2♦3♥4♠5♣

Three of a kind:
5♥5♦5♣K♠J♣

Two Pair:
A♦A♣2♠2♣4♦

Pair:
4♣4♦6♦7♠8♠

High Card: (Doesn’t meet any of the above requirements)
A♦Q♣7♠6♥5♣

The lowest possible hand is:
7♦5♣4♠3♥2♣

Texas Hold ‚em is currently the most popular form of poker, and it involves using two „hole cards“ and a „board“ to make the best possible 5 card poker hand. The game is based primarily on the strength of your hole cards:

A♦A♣ is the most powerful starting hand, while 7♣2♠ is the weakest (as it cannot use both cards to make a straight or a flush.)

If you have never played, a decent strategy would be to just go all in with any pair higher than 10, AQ or AK. It is certainly not the best strategy, but as a beginner it should give you some chance to have the best hand against the other players, if they decide to call your bet.

In general, poker is a game that favors agression, and patience. The key thing to remember is that if you make all of your opponents fold, the value of the hands are irrelevant, so if you don’t really know what you’re doing, just take solid starting hands and bet like a wild man, and you might get lucky!
