Poker is the name given to a number of card games where players wager on the strength of the cards they hold. Poker is a game that involves a communal pot consisting of the players wagers which is awarded to the poker player who either holds the highest ranking hand or makes a wager which goes unmatched by his or her opponents.

Texas Holdem poker games are always played high-only with a No Limit, Pot Limit and Limit option.

All poker games begin with some forced wager over which poker players compete. In No Limit Holdem, the forced wagers are a small blind and a big blind. In any basic poker game, players strategically wager using a number of actions available to them. The actions are as follows:

CHECK – If there is no wager on the current betting round, a player may check. The act of checking passes the action to the next poker player immediately clockwise from him or her. A check does not forfeit interest in the pot, only the current right to bet. If all players check during a round of betting, the round is considered complete.

BET – If there is no wager on the current betting round, a player may bet. If a player bets, the poker player immediately clockwise from him or her (and any subsequent poker players) may fold, raise, or call.

FOLD – The act of folding forfeits all interest in the pot. A player who folds is not required or allowed to wager any further money for the current poker game.

CALL – If there has been a wager on the current round of poker play, a player may call. The act of calling requires the player to match the current bet made by his or her opponent(s).

RAISE – If there has been a wager on the current betting round, a player may raise. The act of raising requires the poker player to match the current bet, and make a greater one. All subsequent players are required to call the raise or raise again (re-raise) to maintain interest in the pot.

On each betting round, betting continues until the person immediately counterclockwise the last bettor or raiser acts. When this person acts, the next poker round begins, or the hand is complete.

When the last bet or raise on the final betting round is called, the showdown occurs. This is when it is determined who wins the pot, as players show their hands one-by-one. It may be the case that there is no showdown. This occurs when a player bets or raises, and no active players choose to call the players bet (in other words, all players fold). In this case, the player doing the betting or raising wins the full amount of the pot.

James asks…

How many different versions of poker are there and what are the rules of the most common poker games?

how many different kinds of ways to play poker are there mainly?

admin answers:

Dude, there are SOOOO many different versions. 5-card draw or stud, 7 card stud, 7stud hi/lo, texas hold ‚em, omaha, omaha hi/lo, razz (stud lo), chinese poker, lowball… There’s soooo many versions of the game and some can get real complicated.

MOST poker games are where no matter how many cards you are given, you are only going to play 5 of the cards to make your best 5 card hand. For example with texas hold ‚em and 7 stud, you are given 7 cards total, but you are using any 5 of them to play your best 5 card hand. If you go on to any online poker site, you can play a whole bunch of the games for free. Pokerstars.com is the one I play on and in my opinion the best one out there because there are so many games going.

What are the rules of strip poker?

I’ve played before, and I don’t exactly remember how. And it is kind of an emergency because my friend did something she regrets, one of her little brothers friends got it on camera and we’re trying to bribe him out of it. please help!(:

admin answers:

There is no governing body in strip poker. The rules are whatever you make them.

In my opinion, the best way to play is not to „bet“ with your clothing. What you should do is give everyone a set number of chips (say 1500, with blinds of 50 and 100), and every time someone loses all their chips, they must remove an article of clothing and then all the chips are redistributed evenly amongst the players and you go again. This way, some skill is involved and the game isn’t over in 10 minutes.

Laura asks…

What are the basic $1/2 no limit poker rules I should know at the casino?

Hi i’m a rookie, just turned 18 and wish to play with the big dogs in the casino . I know how to play but can you please explain what happens when I buy into a table ($40 minimum) do they give me chips and I sit down? Also do I small blind if I have the white dealer button or the person left of me?? Thank you!!!!

admin answers:

Different casinos have different rules for buying into a table, but most allow you to just buy in for the $40 after you sit down at the table. If they tell you to go to the cashier’s cage to get chips, then just go ahead and do that.

The person with the white dealer button is the dealer. (They don’t actually physically deal the cards! That’s just their position.) The person to the left of the dealer button is the small blind and puts up $1 to start the hand. The person to the left of the small blind is the big blind and puts up $2 to start the hand. The person to the left of the big blind will be the first person that will act in the hand. (In other words, call, raise, or fold.)

Just pay close attention to what’s going on. It’s not too hard to figure out if you pay close attention for a few hands. If you have to wait for a seat to become available, spend that time watching one of the $1/$2 games. You’ll get a good sense of what’s going on.

One more piece of advice: Forget anything you’ve seen in the movies regarding poker games. You can sit down and play just ONE hand if you want to, then get up and leave right away after winning your first hand. Just remember that is always YOUR money that you’ve got sitting in front of you, and these people are NOT your friends. You will almost certainly be handing these people your money if this is your first time. If you manage to get lucky and get up to $100, stand up, cash in your chips, take a walk for a while, then come back and re-buy for $40.

Have fun! Maybe you’ll get lucky!
