I think you may be thinking about „Poker de dados“. When you say this quickly, it probably sounds like „Obrigado“ which is actually „thank-you“ in Portuguese.
Basically you throw the dice and if you like what you’ve thrown (i.e. You have a good „hand“), you note down the score and pass the die on to the next player.
The die are classified in number order with 1 being the „best“ i.e. 1-6-5-4-3-2
The values of throws are (in descending order):
1. Poker real (cinco iguales) (5 of the same)
2. Poker cuádruple (cuatro iguales) (4 of the same)
3. Full (tres iguales y un par) (three of the same and a pair)
4. Escalera mayor 2-3-4-5-6 (ascending stair)
5. Escalera menor 1-2-3-4-5 (descending stair)
6. Piernas (triples) (triple)
7. Pares dobles (double pairs)
8. Pares. (pairs)

I hope this helps. I copied it off a Spanish dice game website and translated it for you.

James asks…

The goal of the hand is to get as many of the same kind as you can. Like a pair, three of a kind (like 3 kings, 3 eights, etc); or two pairs. If you can get all five cards to be the same suit, that’s a flush.

You start out with five cards. You can toss away any from none to all, and get new cards to add up to five again. It’s best to keep any pairs and/or high cards you already have, try to maximize your hand.

Once you have your hand, you basically have to convince the rest of the table you have an excellent hand, whether you do or not…that’s the tricky part of the game. Finally when the betting’s done you all show your cards and whoever has the highest scoring hand wins the pot.

Paul asks…

Need an intermediate poker guide?

Anyone know any good guides that would help me improve my poker skills? I know all the rules and everything but I’d like to learn more about when to bet.
So if anyone knows any guide that explains when to bet please post it.

Also random question.
If two people have two pairs and the highest pairs are equal, is the winner decided by the second pair or the highest card?

There are so many books, online guides out there to look at that it can be difficult to decide.

Fulltilt is a great one

Watch the WSOP on TV is also a great way to watch the best of the best play.

I find that I get better by the more I play. It doesn’t matter whether who or where. Online or in person. Family, friends, or strangers. The more you play, the more you learn. There’s nothing wrong with reading advice from the the likes of Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, etc. But you are the one playing and not them.

Robert asks…

How do I play Poker? (ABSOLUTELY NO experience whatsoever)?

I need to learn how to play Poker from scratch. No tips, no advice, none of that.
Just a simple explanation on how to play the game with the rules and goals etc.

Why do I want to play Poker you ask?
Because of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6HN3TsI8cw

Thank you in advance!

Go to your local book store or library and get any copy of any book on card game rules/and or regulations, there are lots of them sit down and read it from front to back. Don`t be afraid to ask questions before you get fully involved in competitive games especially where there is money involved. Don`t be afraid to ask your family and friends to clarify what you dont understand, there will be lots of willing helpers and most of them will be only too glad to help. When it comes down to the end, the only dumb question is the one you don`t ask most of all take time to enjoy the games for what they really are games
