Your Questions About Poker Rules

Nancy asks…

A Poker Rules Question?

I was watching Poker After Dark. There was a conflict at the table which was never answered-
Texas Holdem- If a player throws his hand in the muck after the river card is turned, does the other person who is going to take down the pot have to show his hand at that point?

Also-what does the term „cooler“ mean in poker?

admin answers:

No, you don’t have to show your hand. No matter what you have, it is the best hand, because the other player has no hand.

Also, a cooler is a big hand that loses to a bigger hand, or also a big, unsuspected outdraw.

Thomas asks…

poker rules, showing cards?

when playing poker, and you lose a hand, is „legal“ to ask the winner to see the cards? or is the winner allowed to not show the cards?

admin answers:

The last person to act aggressively (i.e lead out with a bet or raise the action) must show their hand first at showdown. The calling player then has the option to show or muck.

Technically (in most live casinos), even then, if the calling player mucks the original bettor can request that he still sees the players cards, however this is a bit unethical (it’s frowned upon).

If you lose the hand by folding you don’t have the right to ask to see the winning players cards and they don’t have to show you if you do.

David asks…

Where can I get official rules on Texas Hold’em Poker?

I pretty much understand the game but not enough to play myself. One thing I am most puzzled on is EXACTLY how side pots work. When searching for rules you only get very vague rules, I need something much more detailed.
Thanks

admin answers:

SIDE POTS-
LETS SAY YOU GO ALL IN.
YOU HAVE 20 BUX
YOU GET 2 CALLERS
ONE GUY HAS 10 BUX
THE OTHER HAS 20.
THE MAIN POT WILL HAVE 10 + 10 + 10 (TO MATCH THE SHORT STACK’S 10)
THE SIDE POT WILL HAVE 10 + 10
YOU ARE IN FOR BOTH POTS.
AND IF THERE ARE MORE CALLERS WITH MORE CHIPS, THEY’LL PLAY FOR A THIRD OR FOURTH SIDE POT.

BEST WAY TO LEARN IS TO GO PLAY IN A CASINO.
START WITH A SMALL GAME (LIKE $1-$1 BLINDS)
SIT AND WATCH.
YOU’LL GET IT AFTER A WHILE.

Richard asks…

poker rules . if i look , must opponent announcee his hand ?

playing holdem – after the betting , if i look do i have to put my hand on the table or must the better anounce his hand ?

admin answers:

If you look at what?

If you just want to fold, then go ahead and fold. But if everyone folds after the betting, then the winner doesn’t have to announce anything.
