Daniel asks…

Is there a rule in poker that makes it so you cant give your chips to another player?

I know that it’s never been done I always thought it was because everyone wanted to win. My family got into a fight saying you can’t give chips away it’s against the rules I wanted to know if there is a rule against it and can you give me a website link with sed rule.

admin answers:

Yes, in general the rule is you cannot give chips to another player. The rule is to prevent „going south“. Going south means to remove a portion of the chips you have in play at the table to limit your chance of losing big, particularly on no-limit games. For example, you buy-in for $100 at a NL table, go all-in, and drag a pot with $500. Now you can potentially be faced with a $500 bet that you’d feel you have to call, risking all your winnings. Let’s say instead you gave $300 to a friend after winning that pot. Now if someone bet $500 you’d only need to go all-in with your remaining $200. This is at best frowned upon and at worst considered cheating. The same rule applies to „ratholing“, i.e. Putting chips in your pocket and to cashing out and buying back into the game. All of these are against the rules in almost any poker room.

Helen asks…

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR PLAYING POKER?

admin answers:

1. Players place an initial bet, if required by the game being played, by placing some of their chips into a central common area known as the pot or pool.
2. The dealer deals cards to the players.
3. Players look at their own cards, and have the opportunity to increase their bet, placing extra chips into the pot. All other players must then either put in chips to bring their contribution to the pot to at least an equal amount or fold, discarding their cards and abandoning any chips they have so far contributed to the pot.
4. Players who have not folded are known as active players. When all active players have contributed an equal amount to the pot, that is the end of the betting round. According to the variant being played, further cards may be dealt or players may have an opportunity to exchange some cards, after which there is another betting round, and so on.
5. When the last betting round has ended there is a showdown: all active players show their cards, and the owner of the best five-card hand takes the contents of the pot. If at any point only one active player remains, that player automatically wins the pot without having to show any cards.

Nancy asks…

Could somebody explain the rules of a straight in poker. eg. can you have q k a 2 3. can you start straight?

with ace and end. etc etc. Comments appreciated.

admin answers:

The cards may look to be in sequence however you must have 5 running cards in sequence of their rank Ace can be used as a one in the last five card sequence or as a 14 in the first card sequence where king is 13 queen is 12 and jack is 11. So a straight with an ace would be( A K Q J 10) 0r( 5 4 3 2 A) and no other unless a wild card is substituted for any card in the sequence.I you hand if the 2’s and 3’s are wild or the K’s and Q’s are wild then you could have a straight.
