Geez thats a harsh one, hmmm how to explain the whole rule of poker in about 4 paragraphs, i’ll have a go.

First, you get 2 cards, dont say what they are keep them to yourself the aim is to get the best hand on the table with your cards so if you think they are good cards then you can check- stay in the game without adding money, bet – get into the pot by putting money in or raise – add more money to the pot to make other add more. A good hand wound be picture cards or cards which can go into a straight. E.g. QK, 79

three cards are then played in the middle of the table this is called the flop use these cards to make a hand. Call, raise or fold depending on what you have, remember that you have another 2 cards that could come out after this as well though. These cards are called the turn and river card. A round of betting will happen between all cards played and at the end of all cards on show.

Hands:

Royal Flush
This is the best possible hand in standard five-card Poker. Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10, all of the same suit.

Straight Flush
Any five-card sequence in the same suit (e.g.: 8, 9, 10, Jack and Queen of clubs; or 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of diamonds).

Four of a Kind
All four cards of the same value (e.g.: 8, 8, 8, 8; or Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen).

Full House
Three of a kind combined with a pair (e.g.: 10, 10, 10 with 6, 6; or King, King, King with 5, 5).

Flush
Any five cards of the same suit, but not in sequence (e.g.: 4, 5, 7, 10 and King of spades).

Straight
Five cards in sequence, but not in the same suit (e.g.: 7 of clubs, 8 of clubs, 9 of diamonds, 10 of spades and Jack of diamonds).

Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same value (e.g.: 3, 3, 3; or Jack, Jack, Jack).

Two Pair
Two separate pairs (e.g.: 2, 2, Queen, Queen).

Pair
Two cards of the same value (e.g.: 7, 7).

High Card
If a Poker hand contains none of the above combinations, it’s valued by the highest card in it.

Well, i couldn’t do 4 paragraphs but i hope this helps :] i think its cool to see more women playing poker 😀

Lisa asks…

Can someone explain the betting rules for poker?

Just how much you have to bet, when you’re allowed to check and all the rules regarding betting

admin answers:

Would someone else please report „google it“? Crap like that shouldn’t be accepted. (If it’s gone, that means someone else reported it.)

There are THOUSANDS of varieties of poker, and at least a dozen varieties currently being played in countless casinos around the planet. Each of these poker games has different rules as to how the betting goes. Even within each variety comes more varieties. For example, the rules for betting LIMIT Texas Hold ‚em are different from the rules in NO LIMIT Texas Hold ‚em.

Really – you’ll need to be much more specific as to what variety of poker you’d like to learn about.

Poker, by and large, is a gambling card game where you attempt to get the best combination of 5 cards. The winner of each hand will win the combined bets, called a „Pot“.

The deck has 52 cards, arranged in 4 „suits“ of 13. Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs. The Ace being the highest value of any suit, followed in order by the King, Queen, Jack and then 10 through 2 in numerical order.

The best hand, or 5 card combination of the game, is Called a Royal Flush. This means holding the 10 through Ace of any single suit.

Next is a Straight Flush. Again all cards of the same suit, and inclusive in order… Example the 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of Spades is a Straight Flush. If 2 of these hands are produced at the same time, the hand including the highest value card wins.

Next is 4 of a kind. If you hold all 4 of the same value card. The 5th card is moot If more than 1 player has 4 of a kind, the 4 cards with the highest value wins.

Next is called the Full House. The Full House is a three of a kind and a pair. When there are two full houses the tie is broken by the three of a kind.

Then the Flush. Regardless of card value, a Flush is when all 5 cards are of the same suit. When there are 2 Flushes, the highest card wins. If the tie cannot be broken by this rule, the hand is a tie, and the pot is split.

The Straight is when the 5 cards in your hand are of inclusive value, regardless of suit. The 8,9,10,Jack, and Queen, for example, would be a straight. When there are 2 Straights, the highest card wins. If the tie cannot be broken by this rule, the hand is a tie, and the pot is split.

Next is the Three of a Kind. Three cards of any value with the remaining cards not being a pair (that would be a full house if it were). Once again the highest ranking three of a kind would win.

The next is Two Pair. Two distinct pairs of card and a 5th card. The highest ranking pair wins ties. If both hands have the same high pair, the second pair wins. If both hands have the same pairs, the high card wins.

Pair – One pair with three distinct cards. Highest ranking pair wins. High card breaks ties.

Finally, When a hand has none of the above qualifications of any of the ones listed above, nobody has even a pair or better, then it comes down to who is holding the highest ranking card. If there is a tie for the high card then the next high card determines the pot, if that card is a tie than it continues down till the third, fourth, and fifth card.

After these universal Poker rules, there are dozens of poker games whereby betting, Dealing, receiving and returning cards, even the number of cards dealt can vary widely.

Historically, The most common Poker games are called 5 Card Draw or 5 Card Stud.

In both games, a dealer passes out 5 cards, all face down , one to each player at a time. The players, may look at their cards, after all 5 are dealt. The player to the dealer’s left (or a designated player if the dealer is not also playing) will place a bet. Other players now have a chance „call“ meaning to match all other bets or to „Raise“ meaning to match all other bets and bet more. If a player choses not to call or raise, his only other option is to „fold“ or quit playing this hand. He returns his cards to the dealer and waits for the next hand to be dealt.

At this point in 5 Card Stud, players show their hands and resolve the pot.

For 5 Card Draw: Once the betting is done, players, in the same order as betting went, have an option to trade in their a part of their hand for new cards. A player may not ask the dealer for more than 4 new cards from the deck, (and if you are playing for money, you shouldn’t ask for more than 3) .

Once new cards are passed out is another round of betting. Once all bets are in, players show their hands and resolve the pot. If all other players fold, the last player holding cards wins the pot. This player need not show his cards to the other players unless he choses to. This is the only time a winning hand is not shown to the table, and is called „Mucking“.

Betty asks…
