Your Questions About Poker

Nancy asks…

How much money do I need to start my Poker dream?

I watched the „reality“ tv show „2 months 2 million“ and I recall one of the participants saying he started with as little as $100. Is there a minimum you would suggest to play live Poker AND ways to try to cover the travel and room expenses with winnings?

admin answers:

You dream is almost certainly going to remain „broken“. Just make sure you have a back-up plan!

The vast majority of people fail. Do YOU have any reason to believe that YOU are a better poker player than most of the other people out there? Do YOU already know how to play poker profitably?

Don’t quit school, man.

Donna asks…

What food could I serve for poker night?

I’m hosting poker night for 8-10 people and I was wondering what would be the best food to serve. Sandwiches are too boring. I was thinking nachos with dip, or deviled eggs, pita chips, etc etc etc.. i also want to serve something sweet, like cake or something… or would that be too much?? What do you guys think??
Smdiner, you didn’t say what TYPE of cheese for the beer dip.
I’m NOT SURE what food to serve… those are just ideas I have, that’s why I’m asking for suggestions.

admin answers:

I think what you have will be -perfect-. It’s all finger foods that won’t get messy and all over the cards, despite what some people may think. If you really want to do some kind of sweet stuff, I’d make mini muffins or cupcakes (again small finger foods). I also don’t think this would be too much food, because Poker nights usually run late into the night. I wouldn’t want anyone getting hungry on me.

I’m actually planning on making these mini cupcakes this weekend:

Mascarpone Mini Cupcakes with Strawberry Glaze

* 8 ounces mascarpone cheese (about 1 cup), softened
* 2 egg whites
* 1/4 cup vegetable oil
* 1 box white cake mix
* 1 cup water
* 1/3 cup frozen strawberries, thawed and drained
* 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Special equipment: 4 mini muffin tins and 48 mini muffin paper cupcake liners

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line the mini tins with paper liners.

In a large bowl combine the mascarpone cheese, egg whites and vegetable oil. Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients until combined and creamy. Add the cake mix and water and mix until smooth, about 3 minutes. Fill the mini cups to just below the rim and bake until puffed and golden, about 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly in the tin then transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack.

Meanwhile, puree the strawberries in a blender or small food processor. Place the powdered sugar in a medium bowl. Pour in the strawberry puree and whisk until smooth. Top the cooled cupcakes with the strawberry glaze. Let the cupcakes sit for a few minutes for the glaze to firm up, then serve.

Can a good poker player tell me a what poker book is available on beating a pro player at high stakes no limit holdem?

admin answers:

While there are tons of great poker books out there, in my opinion, the best poker book specifically targeted at less experienced players players wanting to beat more skilled players is „Kill Phil“, by Blair Rodman.

Http://www.amazon.com/Kill-Phil-Success-No-Limit-Tournaments/dp/0929712242

He offers specific strategies for beating players who are more advanced than you are. I deal poker for a living, and play, as well. I’ve seen players use the strategies outlined in this book, and in my opinion, they work.

Rodman’s site has a lot of good articles for free.
