Your Questions About Poker

Jenny asks…

How can I improve my poker skills?

Me and my friends often meet to play poker and I really wanna leave with a bit more money. I can’t practice with them because we always play for money so it always gets serious.

Play online for free for a while. For the most part, the standard of play sucks ass. But here’s what you should do: start off by working on your initial hand selection (what hands you play, what hands you fold & which hands you raise with and in what positions you should do so). From there, work out how to calculate pot-odds. This is an invaluable skill, where you’ll learn to play poker and stay in pots only *when the odds are in your favour*.

As far as reading other players go, don’t bother with ‚tells‘ in online poker. I have not seen a reliable tell in online poker, besides betting patterns. But, when you’re with your friends, try to work out their tells; mannerisms that indicate hand-strength (or weakness). See source site for articles related to all things that I’ve mentioned. Honestly, these skills are an invaluable part of playing *winning* poker over the *long-term.*

Ken asks…

Is it appropriate to take percentage of poker tournament that i am hosting?

Hi, i’m planning on having a 35 player poker tournament. Buy-in will be $200 minus expenses (food and drinks).

I will for sure play in the tourney and will not pay but I am wondering, should i take a cut for all the work i’m putting into this? How much do you think?

Thanks!!

It all depends…are you hosting this tournament at a business you work at? If so then yes it is illegal to do so….the law states that it is illegal for a company or anyone apart of it to make profits of a tournament that they are hosting….but if you are at your house or somewhere like that, then yes it is perfectly fine……for example, i know this guy who always plays a tournament at his local bowling alley, and the bowling alley gets none of the money, BUT they do profit off all the food and drinks…….so if you arent apart of any buisness hosting the tournament, then i’d say yes, take a precantage out of it, i would for sure!….lets see you got 35 people playing, times that by 200…is 7000….and i would say the top 4 people should get paid since there isnt alot of people playing…..1st should probably get paid around 3500, 2nd-1500, 3rd-750, 4-500…..then i would say that you should get the ramaining 750….hope that helps! And good luck! [=

John asks…

Is Absolute poker a well trusted sight that actually pays out?

Is absolute poker a site that pays out when you want to cash out without issues? Are they also a trusted site. I recently funded money on the site I should of done more research about them first though. Any input would be great.

admin answers:

From what I have gathered, they are still reliable when it comes to payouts, but their reputation has not been very clean (the inside job issue a few years back) although I’m sure they are trying to get their reputation back, but personally I don’t want to risk it.. I prefer to play at fulltilt, pokerstars, and http://www.blindhit.com
