Pokemon’s „Happy Face“?

I traded with a friend on Diamond and Pearl, and noticed that the Pokemon had a „Happy Face“ symbol next to them in the game. That is, when you checked your stats. I asked him and he said that he didn’t know but that he hacked those Pokemon in Ruby or Sapphire. The Pokemon also have PokeRus.

So what do those „Happy Faces“ mean?
