Betty asks…

What’s the risk with trading with a hacked pokemon game?

Allow me to explain the situation.

I’m going to enter the Pokemon Video Game Championship in Philadelphia, June 6th. Now, do I have a team built yet? No; I’ve already got the plans set up, though. Depending on my progress, I can get four pokemon, fully EV trained, at level 50, with the right nature’s and all.

My plan? Train them in the third generation, clone them (To those against cloning, don’t leave yet; it has nothing to pertain to the discussion one bit), and put them in my Diamond version to trade into my unfinished Platinum version.

Now, for me to get the EV’s easily, I’ll need to mix records and fight buddy-batles with the exp share to max out my EV’s. The only game I have available is a hacked Sapphire, the only hacks are making certain pokemon appear (just to test– I haven’t traded or kept them in other games, but I still have them (eg Mew, Cyndiquil)) , pokerus hack (I have contained the pokerus into Sapphire only, it is not in any other game.) and the money hack.

Here’s my question:

Is it safe for me to mix records with my Emerald version? What are the consequences? Am I shot out of the water for doing the vgc?

On another note, is it also safe for me to use the box function on Pokemon Ruby Sapphire Box for the gcn witht hat same version?

Hope for results soon,
Ajwork.
EDIT

I’m not asking „will it get me kicked out of the vgc“ specifically– I’m asking about the overall effects– will it hurt my Emerald version? My Box? Etc.?

All the consequences.

And as far as I know, the hack-detection process only picks up on pokemon whoo were hacked into creation, and hacked into training, not from being from a hacked game or cartridge (other than platinum, of course).

admin answers:

It is not hacked pokemon but the act of hacking that can damage a game and/or compromise the save. Nintendo has a way to check if pokemon are hacked or have been modified by a cheat device. Even if migrated. Now cloning cannot be found out due to it to is not modifying or missing any regular coding. So hacking can only hurt your hacking on.

I have personal experience with this over 3 generations of games. In my pokemon dealing I do get the occasional hack which I release immediately because of my pride.

Pokemon Soul Silver Team ratings?

Warning – Experienced Pokemon players will answer this one)
Greetings everyone! I had MIRACULOUSLY came in contact with a Pokemon who had the Pokerus (A virus that doubles the amount of EV’s recieved in battle for stats upon leveling up.) I’ve just got done smaking the elite four and doing some EV training. I am slowly getting tired of fighting against computers and players who don’t know the game mechanics… So, I intend on fighting against the best of the best by competing against the more intermediate players! I am gonna need your help, however… FEAST YOUR EYES ON THESE!!

– Drapion/ LV: 58/ Nature: Adamant/ Ability: Sniper/ Item: Scope Lens
Toxic Spikes, Pursuit, Earthquake , Cross Poison
– Sharpedo/ LV: 53/ Nature: Mild/ Ability: Rough Skin/ Item: Razor Claw
Assurance, Roar, Ice Beam, Waterfall
– Dragonite/ LV: 59/ Nature: Lonely/ Ability: Inner Focus/ Item: Metronome
Earthquake, Stone Edge, Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance
– Scizor/ LV: 55/ Nature: Adamant/ Ability: Technician/ Item: Life Orb
Baton Pass, Bullet Punch, Swords Dance, Roost
– Typhlosion/ LV: 57/ Nature: Naughty/ Ability: Blaze/ Item: Expert Belt
Thunder Punch, Earthquake, Sunny Day, Eruption
– Venusaur/ LV: 57/Nature: Mild/ Ability: Overgrow/ Item: Leftovers
Solarbeam, Roar, Synthesis, Sludgebomb

NOTES/Questions:
– I’ve only recently (albiet two years ago) realized the concept of EV rates, IV rates. I’ve covered the concept of natures long ago when Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald came out. I’ve also realized that a lot of experienced players are EXTREMELY creative and they know the game mechanics like the back of their hand.
– I am NOT counting on any inexperienced pokemon players for this question because they are most likely to say something like this:
„omg yer pokemon r weak… ur scizor needs moves like metal claw bug bite fury cutter and steel wing… u also need mewtwo, lugia, mew, giratina all at level 100.“
Sorry but if I were to make such changes I would lose TRAGICALLY in a competitive match.
– And no, I REFUSE to catch ANY legendary pokemon for three reasons: 1) Because, I hardly ever see any other experienced pokemon trainers with them 2) A lot of scrubby, inexperienced and/or younger players tend to use them on a daily basis, most likely because they don’t really know the game mechanics at all or because they take their „legends“ too literally and 3) Trainers with more than one legendary pokemon are often looked down upon. So no, I’ll agree with any other pokemon except legendary pokemon.
– I guess my question is… Is this a good pokemon team for competitive battles? Which pokemon should I catch next based off of the previous strategy I decribed above? Which pokemon should be replaced? Are there any wrong movesets? I could just go to www.smogon.com to explore but I want to hear from other people’s perceptive.

admin answers:

While I’m not exactly a… „experienced pokemon player“ I do happen to know a few things and can point out a couple of things here and there on your team going competitive.

– Competitive battling is a type of battling that results in switching pokemon A LOT. I can see you have Toxic Spikes as an entry hazard, but I’ll be blunt with out, it’s probably the worst entry hazard. Poison types are not only immune to it, but get rid of the completely. If you can some how get Stealth Rock or Spikes in there, your team would greatly appreciate that. Also possibly a Rapid Spinner can help against opposing entry hazards.

– Good idea for not using legendaries… As if you have one on your team, you go into Uber play battling (a competitive battling using the cheapest of legendaries). When going competitive, you either use no legendaries, or all legendaries. (there are a few exceptions to this rule, the pokemon „trios“ (Regi’s, Birds, Beasts, and Pixies) are allowed in regular play. As are Heatran and Cresselia (Heatran is in debate about being allow though)).

– Some of your pokemon are generally… Bad. Typlosion is probably the worst starter out of all generations, and basically… Sucks. If you need it for Sunny Day support (I see you Venasaur might need it), there are better options. Speaking of Venasaur, a Sunny Day – Solarbeam set usually works better on pokemon with Chlorophyll (Exeggutor, Tangrowth, Vileplume, Victreebel, and even Bellossom work as a better sweepers. Exeggutor expecilly, as he can not only set up effectivly, he has a great special attack stat, and access to Explosion, Sleep Powder, and Psychic for his last 2 slots. He is even used in Ubers occasionally. Of course, all of these loose the bulkyness of Venasaur, so if you want to stay Bulky, keep Venasaur.). Sharpedo isn’t exactly top quality (but can be used if you want), Gyarados is an option (but you seem to be avoiding using the absolute best pokemon to use). If your not seeing Gyarados as an option, the other waters are usually bulky (Swampert and Tentacruel get a mention, able to set up Stealth Rock and Spikes, respectivly. Although Tentacruel gives you a general weakness to ground). As for Daprion… I haven’t had much experience with him, so I cannot tell you much about him, weither he is good or not, whilst your other 2 are good.

Here are some ideas for replacements if you want to replace the 3 I suggested.
Typlosion (highly suggest replacing): Exeggutor (for sunny day support), Arcanine, Infernape, and Magmortar have proven pretty effective for me.
Venasaur (not really need to replace): Exeggutor, Tangrowth, and Vileplume have proven pretty effective for me.
Sharpedo (somewhat suggesting a replacement): Swampert, Starmie, and Slowbro have proven effective to me.

– On a side note, I’ve noticed a majority of your team are in the Underused Tier (every one but Dragonite and Scizor). If you wish to go into underused battling (and not having to worry about top sweepers), you can replace these 2 instead.

Dragonite: Altaria (only underused dragon)
Scizor: For scizor, it’s hard to see where your going with this (Revenge killer or Baton Passer… Or perhaps both?). But here are some suggestions for all 3 of those options.
R.K.: Ambipom, Arcanine, Cloyster, Dugtrio, and Scyther
B.P.: Ambipom (Agility/Nasty Plot), Espeon (Calm mind), Syther (Swords Dance), and Girafarig (Agility/Calm Mind)
Both: Ambipom and Scyther.
If you plan on going Underused, then replacing these 2 is the first step.

– Lets look at your Move Pools now.
Daprion: Wow… Really good one there! It’s not like i’ve trained one before, but this looks like the best thing to do, abuse criticles.

Sharpedo: Waterfall is about the only move I agree with here. Sharpedo is supposed to be physical right? Ice Fang should replace Ice Beam, and I think Crunch should replace Assurance (a lot more reliable, which is need for his paper thin defenses). Roar always goes last, so it needs to be replaced because of his fragilness. Aqua jet could work.

Dragonite: Great, reliable, and nothing wrong with it. Next.

Scizor: Same as Dragonite. Next.

Typlosion: As I said, he isnt the best, but you did a pretty good job for a pretty bad pokemon.

Venasaur: Same as Dragonite.

The team has a few problems to iron out, but is an overall average team. 7/10 is my rating.

Berries question in Pokémon Pearl?

Okay, so I’ve got the Pokemon Pearl DS card, and I’m in the middle of EV training my Gliscor. I don’t plan on using its Special Attack at all, so I’d like to feed it some hondew berries, so I can gain the EV’s in other areas as opposed to in Special Attack.

But she wont eat any. Her happiness is already full, so does that mean I need to make her less happy, so that the berry can give er more happiness at the cost of the EV’s?

Also, I’ve already boosted her Attack + Speed EV’s to full (255),
and you can only max out two stats. But, I want to bring the other stats (besides Special attack) as full as they can go.

I know about the power items, what pokemon to defeat, and pokerus.
but, I don’t know what the max will be for each stat now? I’ll use defense as an example. How many defensive-giving pokemon do I need to defeat, before the defense stat is full (if, say, the pokemon gives 1 ev)?

_______________
Also, a side question, the Dive Ball introduced in Ruby/Sapphire was to be used on the ocean floor for the best effect, but the dive HM was gotten rid of in Pearl/Diamond. I’ve migrated a dive ball to pearl, and it says it’s to be used in the ocean. Will it get the boosted effect if I just use it on water, or will it remain as use full as an ordinary pokeball.

Thanks all.
Ach.. it appears, then, that I have made a vital mistake.

So, how many EV’s will a decreasing berry knock off a stat?

admin answers:

You should have only raised attack and speed to 252, the extra 3 is wasted as 4 EV points make 1 stat boost at level up. If you’ve done 255 in two stats then EVs are maxed and you can’t get anymore in any other stat, the max amount of EVs any Pokémon can have is 510.

If you’ve only done 252 in both those stats, then you have 6 EVs left. Just go to Iron Island and fight 3 Gravellers and your defence EVs will be maxed.

As for the berry, Pokémon still eat them if they have no EVs in a particular stat so it looks like you may want to make your Pokémon less happy before trying it again.

The Dive Ball has no added effect in D/P, its just there because you can transfer it over from the GBA.

Edit
If you’re over 100 EVs, the first berry will bring you down to 100 EVs. After that they take off 10 per berry. So in your case, you’re attack and speed will go down to 100 and then you’ll have to train them back up another 152. It sucks but I guess it was done to save berries.

admin answers:

2/5.
First, I’m taking out Drapion for Hippowdon. You’ll need it to scare away those pesky Gyarados.

Hippowdon
Impish
Leftovers
-Earthquake
-Slack Off
-Stealth Rock/Stone Edge
-Roar

This is the bulky Physical wall for support. Stealth Rock is preferred, as it will help the team out and it will discourage flying types to enter into the battle against it. The only threats would be: Flygon, Claydol, Gengar, and Skarmory, and a water should take care of all of those with Ice Beam/Ice Punch and Surf. With it’s high Defenses and HP, it can stand a Dragon Danced Waterfall from Gyarados and Roar it away.

Sharpedo should be replaced by Milotic.

Milotic
Bold
Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Light Screen/HP Electric|Grass
-Recover

This is to help out with bulky Physical Walls, as well as providing a lot of support for Hippowdon and Skarmory/Forretress. You use the generic Surf and Ice Beam for most coverage, and HP Electric should take care of the rest, including Skarmory. However, Light Screen is preferred as it will EXTREMELY help out keeping your Forretress impenetrable.

Now, Dragonite is nice, but switch Stone Edge with Rock Slide. Less power, but a Dragon Dance will make up for it, and the wonderful 30% flinch rate will save your life 30% of the time. Dragon Claw is ok, but I would switch for either Thunder Punch/Thunder Wave. Thunder Punch is for taking care of those waters that will kill you without Light Screen, and Thunder Wave will turn your 30% flinch rate into a 65% non-action rate, letting you become invincible spamming Dragon Dance. Oh, and get that Metronome and replace it with Leftovers. You’ll need it for the sandstorm from Hippowdon.

Next, the only thing I could think of in terms of Scizor’s usefulness is a Cresselia counter, but you don’t even have X-Scissor, and there is no pokemon you can pass a Swords Dance to that really needs it. Switch it with Forretress.

Forretress
Relaxed
Leftovers
-Spikes
-Gyro Ball
-Rapid Spin
-Zap Cannon

This Forry will be nearly impenetrable with Light Screen active, and also lends support to Milotic, Suicune, and Blissey. The main reason as for not exploding is because you put Blissey at an extreme disadvantage if you Explode. So, this will definitely wall Gyarados, while hitting back with Zap Cannon, 2KOing it, or at least paralyzing it so another pokemon can pick it off.

Typhlosion should be replaced. It’s just a bad pokemon, as it’s major is in Sp. Atk and it barely learns any Sp. Atk moves! Use a spin blocker. Choose one of two:

Spiritomb
Impish/Sassy
Choice Band
-Trick
-Shadow Sneak
-Sucker Punch
-Will-O-Wisp

This is Spiritomb’s trick set. Trick Choice band onto a Wall or a special sweeper to severely cripple their strategy and ruin their pokemon, or keep it to boost Shadow Sneak. Will-O-Wisp is if you trick it into a physical sweeper switching in, as you can half it again by burning it.

Dusknoir
Sassy
Leftovers
-Will-O-Wisp
-Gravity
-Shadow Sneak
-DynamicPunch/Brick Break

This is support for your team, as it will make pokemon like Flygon, Claydol, and Skarmory much less of a threat to your team, as well as letting them be hit by Spikes as well. Will-O-Wisp is to cut down attacker’s attack, and Shadow Sneak is a picker move. DynamicPunch is preferable, as the 2 stage Evasiveness lowering will give it 85 accuracy instead of 50%, and in the absence of Rest, you want the confusion to keep him from attacking, however, Brick Break is to help break Reflect cast by Defensive Bronzongs.

Venusaur should be replaced by Blissey:

Blissey
Calm
Leftovers
-Seismic Toss/Ice Beam/Flamethrower
-Thunder Wave/Toxic
-Wish
-Protect

Here’s your wish passer. Since no one really needs status healing that much in this team, you want a wish passer to keep Spiritomb and Forretress healthy, as well as helping Milotic keep that Light Screen up. This is your cleric, lose this, and you lose the game. Keep this one healthy, eh? Seismic toss is preferred, but if not, opt out for any of the other moves and Toxic.
