Your Questions About Pass To Me Pitbull

Sandy asks…

Illegally keeping Pitbulls?

I could tell you what situation I’m in, and you’d understand, but it’s complicated. So, the arrival of 10 Pitbulls is happening tomorrow. My sister is selling them as ‚American Bulldog + Stafordshire Bull Terriers‘. Pitbulls are loving, affectionate animals. We’re currently keeping them secret, and no-one can prove they’re Pitbulls because what we’re passing them off to be a very similar (unless they do a DNA test).

These beautiful puppies would be either killed or homeless, am I doing the right humanly thing? Giving these puppies a chance at life?

admin answers:

In the UK a dog doesnt need any pitbull in it as its pitbull terrier types that are banned. Pitbulls were never a recognised breed so the word types under the law means ANY dog that looks enough like a pitbull (doesn’t have to look exactly like one only tick enough boxes) is classed as pitbull terrier type regardless of parentage. Many poorly bred staffs have been taken and killed for looking type. So no one needs to prove there pitbulls to take them.

So the pups have a high chance of being deemed type no matter what your sister is pretending they are. So no selling them over here in the UK as a cross is not in there best interest as they are likely to be taken and risk being killed at some point in there lives due to there looks. The better off being exported to a country that allows the breed.
Also if or when one is reported you and your sister will face jail time for selling illegal breeds.

Jenny asks…

THERE TRYING TO BAN PITBULLS IN MY STATE and i have one!!!!?

im not givin my dog away i refuse to but on the news today they was talkin about banning them so it would be illegal to have them in ohio i live there and i have a pitbull i will freakin go to jail rather then gigvin my dog away…

what can i do is there anything i can do????
im not getting rid of her NEVER!!!
whats the chances of that law passing????

admin answers:

If this law passes and you wish to keep your dog, you’ll have to move to a different state. I have not read the entire law for myself yet, but I have read the abstract of it. It says nothing of a pit owner going to jail. However, it does say that any officer that suspects a dog is a pit can obtain a search warrant. The officer would then go to the home, look at the dog, and if the officer believes it to be a pit type of any sort or a pit mix, the officer can take the dog and have it euthanized. There is a reasonable chance that the law will pass; many places already have similar laws. However, there are many people banding together to fight this law.
Here are some links that should have more information about the bill:

Here’s something you can do to fight the ban:
Ohio Residents:

Contact Your House Rep as follows: in your contacts, make sure to mention you are an OHIO resident!!!!

(1) Draft a PERSONALIZED LETTER to your house representative

If you do not know who your representative is, please visit: http://www. House. State. Oh. Us/jsps/Representatives. Jsp

In the letter, indicate that you are a constituent, that you oppose Bill 568, that you will leave Ohio if this passes (if that is the case) and that you want your representative to oppose the Bill

Please try to send this letter out immediately!

(2) Call your representative to express your opposition and to urge your representative’s opposition. PHONE CALLS MAKE THE MOST IMPACT! Tell him/her that you will fight this all the way. Remember to leave your name, city of residence and phone number.

You will most probably get your reps voicemail

Please plan what to say prior to making the call

ALTHOUGH EMAILS ARE EASIER, PLEASE FOCUS ON SENDING LETTERS AND CALLING.

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AT THIS POINT!!!!! TAKE 15 MINUTES TO WRITE A LETTER AND MAKE SURE TO PERSONALIZE IT

OUR REPRESENTATIVES NOTICE WHEN THEY RECIEVE FORM LETTERS

(3) Send an e-mail to your representative urging him/her to vote against the Bill

Tell him/her that you will leave Ohio if this passes

***For additional talking points for your letters, please visit: http://www. Animallawcoalition. Com/breed-bans/article/524

Contact the Leadership: (contact information below)

(1) Use the LETTER you sent to your representative and revise it slightly.

Although you may not be a constituent, leadership has a lot of power and expects to hear from the residents of Ohio

So, please send letters

(2) Call each member of the leadership.

You will probably get voicemail but please leave your name, city of residence and phone number

Please plan what you will say prior to making the call

I hope all goes well, and if it comes down to it and you do have to give your dog up, please find an out-of-state no-kill rescue or shelter rather than surrender your dog. Good Luck.

William asks…

My neighbors pitbulls….?

Okay, so my neighbors have two pitbull puppies. around 8 months old. brother and sister…the boy has really bad demodectic mange. ): poor guy. i’ve helped out as much as i can, providing rides to the vet, even giving them money for dips, but they’re low income and i have my own family to provide for so not a lot of improvement has been shown. now i recently found out that the female is pregnant. :/ inbred pups. now i dont know much about inbred dogs or mange, so i’m wondering, will the puppies have mange? the female doesnt. but will the father’s mites pass along to the pups? also, will these babies come out with two heads?! (not seriously) but what affects does inbreeding usually have on dogs?? I’ve offered to help her vaccinate the pups (first round) and then rehome, and then spay the female after the pups are rehomed…but i’m just worried about these puppies. Now dont get me wrong, she takes decent care of them dogs. they are healthy weight, and have been vaccinated…i know she loves them, but i think the mange has just really gotten out of control, as for the pair breeding, i dont know if that was intentional or not, i wont ask as i dont want to offend her.

admin answers:

The puppies get the mites when nursing on the mother. All dogs have them, except those that are hand-reared. But both the male and the female can pass on the immune system weakness that allows the mites to get out of control, as has happened in the case of the male.

Why are they wasting money on dips? The vet should have prescribed Ivomec for the demodectic mange. A vet visit and a month’s supply of Ivomec from the vet would probably cost roughly $100. A 50-lb dog gets 1/2 cc daily, squirted into the side of the mouth with a needle-less syringe or mixed in wet food (it’s supposedly very bitter). He can get the Ivomec from a farm supply store himself, but Ivomec can cause nervous system problems and should really be given under the supervision of a vet. There is very little room for error with the dosage, either. If I’m not mistaken, 7/10 cc per day is the maximum dose that can safely be given to the largest dogs.

I am just shaking my head in anger and disbelief at the ignorance and irresponsibility…The „mother“ dog is still a puppy herself. She shouldn’t be having these puppies. The male and female should both be altered, and a spay/neuter contract should be signed by takers of the puppies. I don’t think the puppies will have two heads or anything, but your neighbors certainly have no lack of issues to deal with. There is a program I’ve heard of that helps people find low cost spay/neuter services, here are some links. Good luck, sorry it is like I’m yelling at you. You are trying to help them and I hope it works out.

Is it OK to do a brother/sister breeding?
It is generally not a good idea. A brother/sister breeding is considered inbreeding. While it can be used in some cases to solidify certain traits in the puppies, it also can reinforce faults that can be very hard to eliminate for generations.

Mary asks…

Why do people own pitbulls?

Now before you read, understand I have owned a pitbull before, it sadly passed away when another pitbull ripped it to shreds in my home. I can’t count how many times I have opened the newspaper to a story about a pitbull attacking someone, or tearing apart other pets. I read a statistical study that weighs pitbulls as the most dangerous domestic dogs due to their temperment. I don’t understand why there are still few restrictions protecting the public from irresponsible pet owners and their flesh eating beasts?

admin answers:

I have owned 2 Pit Bulls prior and I now own a Pit/Boxer mix. My 4 lb Chihuahua has a worse temperament than my Pit.

You see them all over the news for vicious attacks. Some states have even imposed a ban on these dogs. It’s known as the baddest dog on the block, but there is much more to the American Pitbull Terrier then meets the eye.

There Are Good Owners, and There Are Bad Owners

When discussing the temperament of the American Pitbull Terrier you have to talk about two categories: Responsible Owners, and Non Responsible Owners. The proper pitbull temperament is created by responsible owners. A well raised pit is said to be one of the most loyal, loving dog breeds. Pits can also be great with children. They tolerate children playing much better then other breeds. Remember though, these are the dogs that are raised by responsible owners. They are intelligent, easily trained, obedient, and they are eager to please their owners.

Fueling the Bad Reputation Fire

The majority of the stories you hear on the news about pitbulls are those with irresponsible owners. The problem with the media’s portrayal of the Pitbull terrier is the fact that they are grouping a variety of different dog breeds into one. The American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are often included in these reports of bites or vicious behavior, when in fact they are not actually American Pitbull Terriers. This only adds fuel to a fire that continuously burns in the news.

The Facts on Pit Bull Bites

The facts are in and do seem troubling to some. According to the Center for Disease Control, between 1979 and 1998, one-third of all fatal dog attacks were caused by Pit Bull type dogs. The highest number of attacks (118) were by Pit Bull type dogs, the next highest being Rottweiler’s at 67.

It’s All About Responsibility

Even with these statistics, the CDC would not recommend states adopt breed specific legislation. The reason being is that many animal trainers agree that it is not the dog causing the problems, it is irresponsible owners. Irresponsible ownership is to blame for a large amount of the statistics on the breed. For example, some owners may raise their dog to be aggressive, and not neuter the male dog. These are statistically the dogs you here about.

A Wonderful Pet

What the media misses in its coverage of the breed are the many positive aspects of owning a pitbull. The history alone tells you, if raised properly and handled with care and love a pitbull can be a wonderful pet.

America’s Favorite Dog

Maria asks…

pitbull puppy eye problems?

My pitbull female crys alot and her eyes get red after she wakes up and after eating her food…..but once i take her to the vet her eyes are ok…..please help

admin answers:

She might have an allergy to her food or be reacting to the weather. My Pittie reacts to the weather. My Vet said not to worry about it, it will pass, see him again if it gets green or her eyes look worse. It passed. Where i live it can be warm all year round but this time of the year there are „cold fronts“ where the weather can suddenly drop 20 or more degrees, warm back up after a few days and then do it again.
She’ll occasionally get snotty eyes with the changy weather.
If you think there is a chance it could be food related, a good food is a dog food where the primary meat souce is Venison.
Mine eats Nature’s Recipe Venison and Rice which also has no wheat so it’s great for dogs that have allergies. Dick Van Patten has a good Venison food but I haven’t found it easily.
I add Dan Active yogurt to her food and she gets 3V Skin Caps from the Vet that have Omega 3, Vit A, D and E in them.
Other good things to feed you pup are pumpkin pie filling, cottage cheese, Pet Botanics Beef and Rice log cubed and mixed in food or cubed and given for treats.
These are just some my sensitive girl tolerates well and things that keep her stomach happy and settled and allergies at bay. The „other good things“ I just add a few tablespoonfuls to their food, feeding twice a day.
Also watch what treats you give your dog.
